Five will compete for Miss Hammond title

Five young ladies are set to compete for this year’s coveted Miss Hammond title at the Queen’s Pageant on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. at St. Croix Central Middle School .

Each candidate answered questions in order for the community to get to know them a little better. Their responses are below.

Ema Bond

Parents: Jason Bond and Luonda Holter

Siblings: Jacie (14), Cody (12)

School Activities: Track & Field, Dance Team

Community Activities: None

Hobbies: Drawing, dancing, baking

Lived in Hammond: Since 3 years old

Also lived in: River Falls

Why run for Miss Hammond? “I’ve seen the impact other girls have made and wanted to be a part of it.”

Like most about living in Hammond: Knowing most people in the community

Future Plans: Go to college to be a history teacher

Katie Dennis

Parents: Jacob and Jessica Dennis

Siblings: Tyler (17)

School Activities: Softball

Community Activities: Previously in 4H and volunteered for school events

Hobbies: Walk dog, hang out with friends and family, camping, photography and reading

Lived in Hammond: 9 years

Also lived in: Woodbury, Minn.; Falmouth, Mass.

Why run for Miss Hammond? “I think this is a good way to be more involved in the community and to have a good time.”

Like most about living in Hammond: Full of wonderful people and really like the small town feel

Future Plans: Attend college; possibly for photojournalism but haven’t made up my mind

Ariel Backes

Parents: Mike and Darla Feyereisen; Brian and Chriss Reichow (Minneapolis)

Siblings: Hunter (11), Maverick (5)

School Activities: Dance team, Softball team, Student Council, Band, FFA, Forensics

Community Activities: Volunteering at church through youth group; president of my youth group

Hobbies: Dancing, hanging with friends, reading, baking

Lived in Hammond: Since the age of 4

Also lived in: Minnesota

Why run for Miss Hammond? “I was involved with the program when I was younger. I made the props and decorations. I promised myself that would be me when I was older. I also love our community and want to be more involved.”

Like most about living in Hammond: I like how you can walk down the street and be able to know everyone you pass. We are almost like one gigantic family.

Future Plans: Get a degree in veterinary medicine and have my own clinic.

Reanna Gullixson

Parents: Chad and Renee Gullixson

Siblings: Tiffany (24), Craig (21), nephews Jack (3), Rian (7 months)

School Activities: School play, softball, choir, women’s choir, wrestling manager

Community Activities: None

Hobbies: Writing, reading, photography

Lived in Hammond: 3 years

Also lived in: Baldwin

Why run for Miss Hammond? “My friends and family persuaded me. I also wanted to be more involved in the community and become a better role model to others.”

Like most about living in Hammond: It’s a very little, friendly community. I like how spacious it is.

Future Plans: Going to college, getting a bachelor’s degree in English

Morgan Leen

Parents: Cary and Jennifer Leen

Siblings: Erin (14), Lauren (11), Emma (9)

School Activities: Volleyball, Softball, Band, FFA

Community Activities: Church youth group

Hobbies: Volleyball, softball, camping, fishing

Lived in Hammond: 16 years

Why run for Miss Hammond? “I would like to meet new people from surrounding communities, represent our community and show others the great town that Hammond is.”

Like most about living in Hammond: The close family-feel of the community

Future Plans: Become a pediatrician
