The AgStar Fund for Rural America, a corporate giving program of AgStar Financial Services, recently awarded the Free Clinic of Pierce and St. Croix Counties a $5,000 grant. The Free Clinic, based in River Falls, serves both counties and sees an average of 25 needy area medical patients each Tuesday night. The Clinic's mission is to provide primary health care and preventative health education to those with low incomes and without insurance.

"We are very pleased to be working with organizations like the Free Clinic to help support the quality of life for those who can't afford care," said Melanie Olson, AgStar Fund administrator. "AgStar appreciates the important work (the clinic) is doing, making a difference in the lives of rural Americans."

The Free Clinic of Pierce and St. Croix Counties opened in 2007. It offers access to prescription medications at no cost. Some 200 volunteers are active in keeping the Free Clinic operating on a weekly basis.

The $5,000 grant will be used to support part-time staff, medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, lab and radiology fees, and various other clinic costs.

Since forming in 2001, the AgStar Fund has donated more than $3 million to area organizations working to improve the future of rural America.
