VERDICT: Milberg acquitted on all charges

Freedom From Religion wants 'belief in God' off school's mission statement

Madison's Freedom from Religion Foundation says an Ohio school district has no business listing a belief in God as one of its values.

Foundation co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor said it was shocking to see the Lake Local Schools mention God in their mission statement.

Gaylor read it in a recent newsletter. She calls it a serious violation of the separation of church and state.

The group has asked the district to remove the phrase "belief in God" from school publications and Web sites.

Superintendent Jeff Wendorf says they've mentioned the belief for years but school officials and attorneys are now looking into removing it.
