This year’s Fun Fest is generally the same as previous years, but there are a few changes worth mentioning, said Lisa Woletz, director of the New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce.

Thursday night has been declared country music night and will feature Tim Sigler, a popular country artist in the area.

“We thought it would be a great addition to Fun Fest to add some country music,” Woletz said.

Volunteers at Fun Fest will also face a dress up challenge and will be encouraged to create the most creative group outfit possible. The are no prizes for the challenge.

The annual Fun Fest parade, as usual, is slated for 5 p.m. Saturday and is expected to last 45 minutes to an hour.

“We are making a conscious effort to rebuild the parade into what New Richmond used to have,” Woletz said. “We have reached out to at least a dozen bands and our goal is to continually build the parade.”

This year’s grand marshal will be Vernon Conrad, the Chamber’s citizen of the year.

“We’re very excited and encourage everyone to come cheer on this year’s grand marshal, Vernon Conrad,” she said. “He’s New Richmond’s No. 1 fan.”

The $20 unlimited carnival ride wristbands will be available for purchase and use on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from noon-4 p.m.

With so many activities packed into the weekend, Fun Fest offers a bit of fun for the entire family.

Thursday

Tim Sigler will take the stage from 7:30 to 11 p.m. on Thursday in the big fest tent.

Known as “country music night,” Woletz said Sigler is expected to draw a big crowd.

Also planned for Thursday are sidewalk chalk drawings in front of Sweet Greetings, 330 South Knowles Ave., from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. and Fun Fest happy hour from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the tent. Carnival rides by Christman Amusements will get rolling at 6 p.m. at Cyclone Park. Unlimited ride wristbands - good from 6 to 10 p.m. — will be available for $20.

Friday

The food booths and carnival open on Friday at noon. There are many food stands on the grounds, all run by local nonprofits. The carnival will again offer $20 wristbands, valid noon to 4 p.m.

Music on Friday night will start with the Phil Marshall Band on the main stage at 6:30 p.m., followed by The Dweebs.

The Phil Marshall Band plays a variety of music and will be the perfect matchup for The Dweebs, Woletz said.

“In fact, the lead singer for the Phil Marshall band used to be with The Dweebs,” she said.

Crazy Days sales at more than two dozen New Richmond businesses will also be on Friday.

Saturday

Saturday is family fun day, packed full of events and entertainment.

A kiddie pedal tractor pull is slated for 1 p.m. in the festival area. The event is open to children of all ages and is free to participants.

The grand parade will begin at 5 p.m., running from First National Community Bank, on Second Street, south to Paperjack Drive. The parade will take place in the eastbound lanes of South Knowles Avenue.

Live music begins at 6:30 p.m. with Freebird, a Lynyrd Skynard tribute band, followed by Arch Allies, a Journey tribute band who also plays some Styx and REO.

Also planned for Saturday are an antique and stock tractor pull at 10 a.m. in the Domain parking lot, 156 High St.; a pie and ice cream social from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at United Methodist Church, 209 E. Second St.; a children’s water contest at noon at the Fire Hall, 106 N. Arch Ave.; fire department water battles at 1:30 p.m. at the Fire Hall; and a classic car show from noon-4 p.m. at Cyclone Park.

Sunday

Sunday begins with a pancake breakfast at the American Legion building from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a community worship service from 11 a.m. to noon.

The carnival opens again at noon and will offer $20 unlimited ride wristbands again, valid from noon to 4 p.m.
