Girls high school volleyball tournament gets underway today
The girls' state high school volleyball tournament opens late this (Thursday) afternoon in Green Bay with the Division 1 quarter-finals.
Up first is defending champion Watertown, which will take on West Bend East. It's a rematch of last year's state final, but Watertown does not come in with an advantage. West Bend East beat Watertown twice in the regular season.
The other early contest pits Kenosha Tremper against Middleton.
Two other quarter-finals will be played tonight. Milwaukee Pius will face Schofield DC Everest and Manitowoc will take on Muskego.
Manitowoc has the best record of the group at 38-4. Watertown takes a 31-16 record into its title defense.
Tonight's winners will advance to the Division 1 semi-finals Friday. Semis will begin Friday in three other divisions.
All four championship matches will be played Saturday at Green Bay's Resch Center.
