Global warming? Winter blast aims at northwest Wisconsin
New Richmond Wisconsin 127 South Knowles Avenue 54017

Those April showers will look almost blinding in northwest Wisconsin.

A blizzard warning is in effect in the Duluth-Superior area from 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday) until 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service expects from 8-9 inches of snow are expected in the northwest tonight and another 4-5 inches Friday.

Winds near Lake Superior will gust up to 45 mph, with possible white out conditions.

In the region, winter storm warnings are up for Polk, Barron, Washburn and Burnett counties in Wisconsin.

Flood warnings have been posted for Pepin and Buffalo counties.

In Minnesota winter storm warnings are up for all counties in the Twin City metro area, basically all counties from Dakota County north.

Other parts of the north could get six inches or more and the National Weather Service warns of icy conditions, because sleet-and-rain will be mixed in.

They're also warning shovelers that the snow will be extremely wet and heavy and it won't be easy to move.

Mother Nature won't be much help, either.

After today, it might be early next week before the mercury returns to the 40's in northwest Wisconsin.

Almost the northern half of the state could get at least a couple inches of snow and slush over the next two days.

The southern portions could will see up to two-inches of rain, creating even more flooding along some already-swollen rivers.
