Adam Lewis got it started at 106 with a 2-0 win. Both points for Lewis came on penalties against his opponent Austin Schwarz of Delevan-Darien but Lewis rode Schwarz hard through much of the match, nearly scoring points on several nearfall attempts. He held Schwarz down on the mat for two minutes in the third period to win.

"You practice hard for whole season to be able to ride out two minutes," Lewis said afterward.

Hard work also helped heavyweight Lauden Wood rally to beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood's George White Wing 7-5. Despite being at sizeable weight disadvantage to White Wing, Wood used his mobility to score a single-leg takedown at the edge of the mat to break a 5-5 tie in the third period. Wood had trailed for much of the match until the very end.

"I think I can outlast most heavyweights," Wood said afterwards. "I know I give up a lot of weight but if I can attack from the outside and keep moving I do fine. I made the mistake of attacking him head-on at the start of the match."

The only SCC wrestler not to win in the prelims was Kyle Aaby at 182. He lost Jordan Pardowsky of Luxemburg-Casco 7-1.

"We would have loved to have gotten everyone through but Kyle had a tough opponent and that's what happens down here because everyone is good," SCC head coach Brad Holzer said. "Still, we had very good day to move on two wrestlers. I'm very pleased with how we did."

Lewis and Wood join with Cody Nyhagen and Marcus Malecek to wrestle in the Division 2 quarterfinals beginning at 11 a.m. this morning. Lewis faces Wild Rose/Wautoma's unbeaten Zach Sirny (43-0, Sr) while Nyhagen faces Wrightstown's Jackson Fox (Sr. 44-4) at 160; Malecek takes on Adams-Friendship Tyler Burrows (Sr. 41-6) and Wood squares off with Garret Cary of Big Foot /Williams Bay (Jr. 26-0).
