Green Bay will not host soccer's World Cup in 2018 or 2022.

Lambeau Field was on a preliminary list of 58 possible stadiums but it did not make a revised list of 45 sites in 37 cities.

The U.S. is one of several countries bidding for the World Cup in the next couple decades.

And while Packers' president Mark Murphy expressed an interest in hosting the event, the stadium board was told that Lambeau's playing surface is not wide enough and there would have to be structural changes to accommodate the World Cup.

Soldier Field in Chicago, which hosted part of the 1994 World Cup, made the latest list of possible hosts.

Meanwhile, Green Bay still has a presence in U.S. soccer.

Titletown native Jay DeMerit is currently on the U.S. national team and he played all 90 minutes in the Americans' 3-1 loss to Italy on Monday in the Confederations Cup in South Africa.
