Gregory J. Flatland, 35
Gregory Jonathan Flatland, age 35, of Williston, N.D., and formerly of Spring Valley and New Richmond, Wis., and Frazee, Minn., died suddenly of natural causes on Tuesday, April 1, at his residence.
Greg was born on Aug. 21, 1978, in New Richmond, Wis., the son of Jonathan Flatland and Brenda Erickson Flatland. He attended school in Frazee, Minn., and New Richmond, Wis.
The proud father to Kailey Flatland, 12 years old, they spent their time together fishing, skating, sledding, listening to music, and playing electronic games. Greg and his girlfriend Jenny Hokanson were setting down roots in Williston, and looking forward to a long life together.
Greg always excelled at any task or career he tackled. He was well respected by his employers and peers. He was always the jokester, which kept his coworkers, family and friends on edge, wondering when the next prank or trick question was coming. His reward was catching you off guard; our reward was his crooked grin and chuckle, and warning that we should have known better.
Every weekend he could be found watching NFL or NASCAR, grilling steaks, and hanging out with friends. As big brother to Jodi, he was always her self appointed guardian, but always felt it was his right to tease and irritate incessantly. They were very close and protective of each other.
Greg is survived by his daughter, Kailey Flatland of Hawkins, Wis.; girlfriend, Jenny Hokanson of Williston N.D.; father, Jonathan (Frances Riebe), Samantha and Anthony Flatland of Frazee, Minn.; mother, Brenda (Justin Halverson) Erickson of Williston N.D.; sister Jodi (Paul), Taylor, McKenzie, Charles, and arriving baby girl Riehl of Williston N.D.; grandfather, Roger Flatland of New Richmond, Wis., and grandfather, Robert (Ellie Bol) Erickson of Kaukauna, Wis.; and grandmother June Erickson Bol of Baldwin, Wis.; and many loving aunts; uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Shirley Shefland Flatland; and uncle, Daryl Erickson.
