Hearing today on Wausau couple who prayed over daughter instead of getting medical help
A judge in Wausau will hold a hearing today (Monday) on a request to drop charges against a couple who prayed as their daughter died from untreated diabetes.
Attorneys for Dale and Leilani Neumann said the couple's constitutional rights were violated when they were charged with second-degree reckless homicide.
They're accused of praying instead of getting help for 11-year-old Madeline Neumann, who died on Easter Sunday at her home in Weston after being too weak to eat, drink, walk or talk.
Prosecutors say the state's homicide laws do not exempt prayer.
But the defense cites a law which says it's not child abuse to use prayers to treat illnesses.
