Heartland Days this weekend
New Richmond Wisconsin 127 South Knowles Avenue 54017

It's the second weekend in August, and that means it's once again time for Heartland Days in Hammond.

"The celebration is sponsored by the Hammond Lions Club with all proceeds being put back into the community and the Lions' different organizations," said event organizer Steve Miller.

This year, Miller said, the festival's events will be packed into just three days, while only the Heartland Days garage sales will begin Thursday and run through the entire weekend. Maps showing all the registered garage sales are available at Bob & Steve's Amoco and Hammond Village Hall.

Also, throughout the festival's three days a large tent, beer garden and food stands will take over the village park.

A free appreciation dinner sponsored by Associated Bank begins at 4:30 p.m. A donation of a non-perishable food item for the local food shelf is appreciated.

Also happening Friday afternoon is a demonstration and equipment display from local Army Reserve units, a pie-and-ice-cream social, performances by the St. Croix Central High School pep band and rock band, and a baby show. Immediately following the baby show, the Hammond Heartland award winner and the parade grand marshal presentations will take place.

The men's softball tournament gets underway Friday night, and the Hammond Pageant starts at 7 p.m. at St. Croix Central Middle School.

Live music by Arch Allies will rock the park from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Bright and early on Saturday Trinity Lutheran Church holds its pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Registration for the Panther Pant 5K starts at 7:30 a.m. The golf tournament tees off at 8 a.m. at the Hammond Golf Course, and the 26th annual United Fire & Rescue Car Show takes over the street at 8 a.m. as well.

The craft fair and Hammond Library book sale get underway at 9 a.m.

Rockman will spin music from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., bingo takes place under the tent from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the euchre tournament gets underway at 1 p.m.

At 6 p.m. the Championship Series Tractor Pull begins on Fithian Street, and the night will be capped off with live music by Shirts & Skins from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

At 12:20 p.m. the kiddie parade begins, just 10 minutes ahead of the Grand Parade. Immediately following the Grand Parade, a chicken dinner will be served in the park, and a meat raffle will take place at the tent.

Kids activities are scheduled from 2-5 p.m. in the park, along with the Holiday Angels Kids Carnival from 2-6 p.m., a karaoke contest from 2-6 p.m. and the Wisconsin State Kids' Pedal Tractor Pull beginning at 3 p.m.
