Helen Jane Skifstad, 88

Helen Jane (Larson) Skifstad, 88, of Star Prairie, died Monday, March 17 at the St. Croix Health Center in New Richmond.

She was born the daughter of John and Inga (Stovern) Larson on December 11, 1925 in Clayton, Wis. As a young girl, her family moved to Alden Township. Helen attended Pine Lake Elementary School and New Richmond High School. On September 11, 1943, she married Archie Skifstad in Eau Claire, Wis. During WWII, she packed K-rations at Strand Ski Factory in New Richmond. Helen worked at Fabri-Tek Inc. in Amery and Friday Canning in New Richmond. She was actively involved at Bethany Lutheran Church with quilting and Ladies Aid. Helen was a wonderful cook, baker, especially homemade bread, and hostess. Her family remembers no one leaving Helens home hungry.

She will be missed by her children: Joanne Fletch; Rodney (Sheila) Skifstad; Dennis (Linda) Skifstad; Sharon Ross; grandchildren: Trever Winberg; Patti (Duane) Bethke; Jamie (Joel) Powell; Craig Skifstad; Katie (Jim) Goff; Chad (Tressa) Skifstad; Ryan (Melissa) Blietz; Benjamin Blietz; Stephanie (Christopher) Gordon; many great grandchildren; sisters: Agnes Evenson and Ilene Bottolfson; brother-in-law, Stanley Kromrey; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Archie; siblings: Ethel Larson; Louie Larson; Gayhart Larson; Carrie Van Trump; Alice Mae Kromrey; grandson, Richard Winberg; granddaughter, Sara Skifstad; great grandson, Benjamin Winberg; son-in-laws, Billy Fletch; Don McConnell; and Mike Ross.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 21 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Star Prairie. Visitation is also Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment at West Immanuel Church Cemetery will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.
