High school fall sports practices begin on Monday
Excitement is in the air as the beginning of fall sports rapidly approaches.
The opening day for practices in football and girls golf arrives on Monday. The rest of the fall sports will begin their practices schedules the following week. Here are details for the opening practices for the local football and girls golf squads.
The Tigers will issue their team equipment on Monday. Specifics on the times for the issuance of equipment can be found on the team website (www.jdeckert.wix.com/nrfootball). The Tigers will practice from 3:30-8:30 p.m. each day next week, with the freshmen practicing through 6 p.m.
The Spartans begin defense of their Middle Border Conference title with equipment distribution next Monday at 7:30 a.m. The Spartans will hold practices from Tuesday through Saturday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The annual Spartan team cookout and team scrimmage is slated for Monday Aug. 13. The cookout will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the scrimmage starting at 7 p.m.
St. Croix Central
The Panthers will distribute equipment at 8 a.m. next Monday. Practice will begin next Tuesday. From Tuesday through Saturday, the Panthers will practice from 7:55-10:30 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. each day.
The Panthers will host Osceola, Prescott and Bloomer in a scrimmage at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17. The Panthers begin their 2012 schedule with a home game against Baldwin-Woodville on Friday, Aug. 24.
New Richmond's girls golf team will open the season with practice at 7:30 a.m. next Monday at The Links. The team will practice at that time each day next week.
New Richmond will host one of the big early season tournaments in the area. Fifteen teams will participate in the New Richmond Invitational on Wednesday, Aug. 15. New Richmond is the site for the WIAA Division 1 regional tournament this season and every team in the regional will be here to get an early look at the New Richmond Golf Club layout.
Bristol Ridge Golf Club will be the site for the Spartan practices. The Spartan golfers will practice at 7:30 a.m. each weekday, beginning on Monday. Coach Bill Powers said any girl in grades 9-12 who is interested in golf is encouraged to attend the first practice.
St. Croix Central
The Central girls golf team will begin its practices next Monday at the Hammond Golf Club. Practices under Coach Dave Larson will begin at 8 a.m. all that week.
New Richmond Girls Tennis
The Tigers begin their season on Monday with a team meeting at 3 p.m. in the high school forum room. The Tigers will hold their first practice at 6 a.m. next Tuesday and will continue the 6 a.m. schedule until the beginning of classes this fall.
