Historical Society plans appreciation tea
The St. Croix County Historical Society (SCCHS) would like to extend an invitation to the Sixth Annual Volunteer Appreciation Tea to all past, current and potential volunteers.
The tea will take place in the River Room of the Phipps Center for the Arts on Tuesday, April 28, at 1 p.m. This elegant, three-course Victorian tea includes scones, sweets and sandwiches served in a lovely setting overlooking the scenic St. Croix River.
The historical society relies largely on volunteers to carry out its mission. Many generous individuals donate their time and expertise.
Additional volunteers are needed and a wide variety of opportunities exist including reception, cashiers, tour guides, special events, research, data entry, writing, gardening and more. Consider donating a few hours a month to help preserve our history for future generations. Training and guidance are provided.
Opal Rorig has been a valuable member and volunteer of the Historical Society for over six years. As soon as Rorig, a retired teacher, found the SCCHS her organization skills became apparent.
Rorig began with maintaining the surname files, this soon expanded to organizing all of the files. Next Rorig introduced the idea of conducting a series of free historically themed events for the local community.
For the next several winter seasons, Rorig has single handedly coordinated planning the "history series" by scheduling the speakers, reserving location, obtaining and setting up display items and providing registration information. Rorig also assists in publicity for events.
Anyone interested in becoming a new volunteer is welcome to join the current SCCHS volunteers at the Volunteer Appreciation Tea.
All volunteers will be invited to tour the newly decorated museum immediately following the tea.
Send reservations to the Octagon House at 715-386-2654 by April 21.
