Holiday Angels take off
Area organizations and clubs from Roberts and Hammond are teaming up to brighten the holidays with the help from the Holiday Angels.
The Holiday Angels are once again collecting funds and donations to help families struggling financially to buy holiday gifts.
Leading the way is Committee Chairperson Sandy Goulette. The Roberts Lions are a major backer for the Holiday Angels, along with the Hammond Lions, the St. Croix Central Family Leaders of America and other local organizations.
Already this year, groups have stepped in to help the Holiday Angels raise funds and garner toys.
Donations to the Angels should be new, and can include toys, clothes or winter necessities. They should be appropriate for children of all ages, from infants to high schoolers.
Individuals wishing to donate can drop off new toys or other gifts at area businesses. These boxes can be found through Dec. 10 at various locations, including:
Citizens State Bank in Roberts
Associated Bank in Hammond
Hammond Police Department (lower level of the Village Hall)
Roberts Village Hall
Hazel Mackin Library in Roberts
Hammond Community Library
SCC High School Store
Donations are especially important this year, with more families struggling due to the poor economy.
The program, which has been in existence for more than 20 years, has in recent years grown by about 25 children per year, but the difference between 2006 and 2007 was 50 - up to 174 children.
Goulette said she expects needs for 2008 holiday season to increase as well.
