Jet ski operator injured in accident
A Minnesota man was seriously injured in a boating incident on East Balsam Lake on Sunday, June 16.
The accident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m., involved Mark Daniel Mann, 25, of Maple Grove, Minn., and the operator of a boat, Andrew James Iverson, 23, of Minneapolis.
Mann was operating stand up style jet ski. Iverson was operating 20' Mastercraft wake-boat, which was owned by mann's father.
Mann came off his jet ski in front of the boat while the boat was stationary. According to the Polk County Sherif's Department, at that time Iverson hit the throttle and moved forward attempting to pull a wake boarder.
Iverson allegedly felt the boat hit something that he thought was a wave, but passengers on board yelled for him to stop and stated he struck Mann.
Mann suffered serious injuries to both legs. Mann was transported to Regions hospital by Lifelink.
No alcohol was detected on the operator of the boat and alcohol is not believed to be a factor, however the matter remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Department.
Several public safety agencies responded to the scene including the Amery Area EMS, Balsam Lake Fire Department and First Responders, Apple River Area EMS and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
