Lakeside plans label operations closure in New Richmond
Lakeside Foods will be discontinuing labeling operations at its New Richmond plant on June 22. A notice of layoff was filed with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development last week.
According to a press release from Lakeside's headquarters, the move is part of a continuing effort to enhance operational efficiencies and better meet customers' needs.
The 19 affected New Richmond workers will reportedly be made aware of and encouraged to explore opportunities at other Lakeside locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The local Lakeside plant currently employs 60 people overall.
The warehouse will remain open for storage of the millions of cans of finished vegetable products that will continue to be produced at the New Richmond facility. Labeling, however, will be done elsewhere.
"This action was taken only after very careful deliberation," said Dave Yanda, Lakeside's president and CEO.
