Legion, VFW partner to conduct Memorial Day services
The New Richmond Veterans of Foreign Wars #10818 and the American Legion Post #80 conducted Memorial Day services on Monday, May 27.
As showers threatened, a good crowd gathered at Immaculate Conception Church cemetery at 9 a.m. for the opening ceremony.
At the conclusion of that gathering, the joint VFW and Legion honor guard traveled to various cemeteries in the area to conduct similar ceremonies, including Oakland Cemetery; New Richmond Public Cemetery; Knowles Avenue Bridge (in honor of Navy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines); and Veterans Memorial, Victoria Park.
A second honor guard team went to Cylon Methodist Cemetery; St. Bridget's Catholic Church Cemetery in Stanton; and Calvary Cemetery, Deer Park.
A noon lunch was served at the American Legion Hall in New Richmond when the services were concluded.
