Lester proudly served his country in WWII as an officer and B-29 navigator in the Army Air Corp. He and Yvonne returned to their hometown of Somerset, Wis. where he bought his father's farm and developed an innovative pork production operation. In the late 1960's, Lester became a builder/contractor in the Somerset and New Richmond area renovating properties and developing several residential sub-divisions. At the same time, he lovingly restored the original 1855 Martell Family Homestead building at the confluence of the Apple and St. Croix Rivers. He and Yvonne eventually moved into that home overlooking the Apple River where they lived for 20 years.
Lester loved Somerset and sharing time with his many friends and family. He was a lifelong member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Somerset. Lester enjoyed playing the piano and guitar. He loved to dance, travel, garden, read and could often be heard singing or whistling.
Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., Saturday August 30, at St. Annes Catholic Church in Somerset. Visitation, 5-7 p.m., Friday, August 29, at the Church and also one hour prior to the Mass. The family would like to thank Lakeview Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to our family.
