LETTER: Is boundary agreement good or bad?
To the Editor:
If you live or own land in Stanton Township, you better start paying attention to what the City of New Richmond has in mind for you. The City of New Richmond is starting negotiations for an extra territorial agreement with Stanton Township. Please research what we have to gain or lose with this 40 year agreement.
I contacted residents of Troy Township by Hudson and they voted the agreement down, because it prevented them from doing what they wanted with their land. I contacted Richmond Township and they gave the same reason for voting the agreement down. Why is the City of New Richmond, the only city in the area that is in this agreement?
The City of New Richmond signed this agreement with Star Prairie Township but do we feel that it is right for us? Forty years is a long time to live with a contract that may not be right for you. Representatives of the City of New Richmond plan to come to our Stanton Town Hall on April 11 at 7 p.m. to explain to us why they would like an agreement with Stanton Township.
Please be sure to attend this important meeting on the extra territorial agreement and try your best to attend all future meetings about the extra territorial agreement that are held at the Stanton Town Hall the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.
The best thing you can do right now is go to www.newrichmondwi.gov and bring up the Wisconsin Department of Administration (City of New Richmond and Town of Star Prairie, St. Croix County) and read the Dec. 20, 2012 (extra territorial agreement) that New Richmond and Star Prairie Township agreed to. See how you feel about this agreement before you attend the Stanton meeting on April 11 at 7 p.m.
