LETTER: Distracted driving event was successful
To the Editor:
We would like to say thank you to the New Richmond, Hudson, River Falls and Menomonie community businesses and individuals who were able to give financial support to bring the Remembering Alex Brown (RAB) presentation to area students.
Together we raised over $6,000 as well as accommodations and meals provided. Because of your generous donations the Brown family, who lost their daughter in a one-vehicle accident due to texting and driving, was able to share their message of the dangers of distracted driving to approximately 3,000 students in River Falls, Somerset, New Richmond and Menomonie.
Thanks to these schools for hosting the presentations. New Richmond High School followed up with an activity the following week and at last count 520 New Richmond High School students signed the RAB pledge to not text and drive, that's 60 percent of the student body.
It was due to our community's wonderful donations and support that this important message was able to be delivered to our youth. Thank you to all who made this presentation possible.
