Letter: Relay participants raise $107,000
To the Editor:
As staff partner for this year's American Cancer Society Relay For Life of New Richmond, I would like to thank the residents of St. Croix County for their generosity and support.
Twenty-seven teams participated in this year's event, raising more than $107,000 for the American Cancer Society. The outstanding support received proves that the citizens of New Richmond and surrounding communities are truly committed to the fight against cancer.
Since 1999 the Relay For Life of New Richmond has raised over 1.5 million dollars for the American Cancer Society. This is proof that any size community can make a big difference in the fight against cancer.
A special thank you goes to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success. The Relay For Life committee did an outstanding job of organizing the event.
We also appreciate the generosity of this year's corporate sponsors. Relay For Life would not be possible without them. Our corporate sponsors are Westfields Hospital, Baldwin Area Medical Center, WESTconsin Credit Union and Andersen Corporation.
I would like to encourage community members to help us plan the 2009 Relay For Life of New Richmond. Our first committee meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at The Bean Bag in New Richmond.
I challenge everyone in the community to get involved with the Relay For Life in some way; join the planning committee, start a new team, or do a fundraiser for the event. With a lot of hard work I believe in 2009 our total raised since 1999 could reach $1.75 million.
Again, thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society. Remember, it's not too late to become involved in Relay For Life.
