The Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation are jointly hosting a public open house meeting for the Stillwater Lift Bridge Management Plan and repair project on Thursday, March 27, from 5-7 p.m. at the Houlton Elementary School, located at 70 County Road E in Houlton.
The meeting is to provide information on how the existing Stillwater Lift Bridge is to be managed during its interim vehicular use and after its conversion to pedestrian/bicycle use following the construction of the proposed St. Croix River Crossing Project.
There will be numerous information booths highlighting details of the Stillwater Lift Bridge Management Plan and repair project process and decisions to date. Mn/DOT, WisDOT, and consultant staff will be on-hand to address questions. Comment cards will also be provided for attendees to submit written statements.
The Lift Bridge Management Plan and Repair Project is a mitigation item for the St. Croix River Crossing Project. This mitigation item includes developing a long-term Stillwater Lift Bridge Management Plan and a future repair project. The existing Stillwater Lift Bridge is one of 24 bridges identified by Mn/DOT for long-term preservation as part of Mn/DOT's statewide June 2006 Historic Bridges Management Plan.
Traffic will continue to use the lift bridge until a new bridge is built and then the lift bridge will be converted to pedestrian/bicycle use. Timing of the construction of the new bridge for the St. Croix River Crossing Project has not yet been determined and is contingent on project funding.
