Local players stand out in state senior hockey tournament

Five local players were part of the Section 1 team that earned third place in the Wisconsin hockey senior class tournament, held over the weekend in Waupun.

New Richmond was represented on the Section 1 team by Michael Bodsberg, Kaleb Kier, Tyler Lagerstrom and Austin Zywiec. Somerset's Jordan Langness was one of the two goalies on the Section 1 team.

Section 1 took third place out of the eight teams in the tournament. Section 1 opened the tournament with a 7-3 win over Section 5 on Friday.

Section 1 suffered its only loss in Saturday's semifinals against Section 7, 6-4. That was Section 7's closest game in the tournament. Section 7 defeated Section 8 in Sunday's championship game by a 12-1 score.

Section 1 played in Sunday's third place game, defeating Section 6, 4-2.

Bodsberg was one of the top scorers in the tournament. He scored four goals, tying for the top total in the tournament. Bodsberg scored Section 1's first two goals in Friday's win. He scored two goals in the third period during Section 1's comeback attempt. He had an assist in Sunday's win.

Zywiec produced a goal and an assist for Section 1, both in Friday's game. Lagerstrom had two assists in the tournament and Kier accounted for one assist.

Langness was in goal for both of Section 1's victories. He finished with a 2.04 goals against average and a .917 save percentage for the tournament.
