Lindsay Greening just happened to be at Mall of America in 2007 when they announced that Bloomingdales was searching for models for an upcoming Teen Vogue fashion show.

On a whim she attended the casting call and of all the girls who applied to be part of the fashion show, she was chosen. From there, Greening knew modeling would be part of her future.

Since her stint at the Mall of America, Greening, 21, has modeled in shoots for various photographers. Now, she's hoping to catapult her career to the next level.

Greening is one of 1,444 women competing to win maurices Main Street Model Search, which would give her national exposure in all maurices stores and marketing media. Winners also get a $1,500 gift card for maurices and $7,500 to be donated to a charitable organization of their choosing. Greening has selected Grace Place, a transitional shelter in Somerset, as her charity.

Self-described as a small town girl who wants to make an impression for girls like her, Greening grew up in Prescott before her family moved to Boardman. She attended high school in New Richmond for one year before transferring back to Prescott because of bullying issues.

Greening said it was her experience with bullying that made her want to become a model and role model for other girls.

"You need to be courageous and willing to stand up for what is right, be strong and confident and believe in yourself so others have the confidence to do the same," she said. "You need to be a role model not just a pretty face. That is why I am submitting my application to be maurices' next model. I want to represent a brand that is about being you, while having fun, being confident and being a role model, not only in your community but everywhere you go."

Of the 1,444 girls who entered the contest nationwide, 100 will be chosen by voters at http://www.mau ricesmainstreetmodel.com. Voting is limited to one vote per person, per email address, per 24-hour period. Voting opened Feb. 27 and goes through 1 p.m. on March 19.

Greening said it's been a difficult process because it's impossible to know what place she's in or whether she's received any votes.

In similar contests, such as Wet Seal's Model Search, Greening said she was able to see where she ranked compared to the other contestants.

On March 20 maurices will announce the top 100 contestants, who will each be required to submit a video that explains why she should be the next Main Street model. From there, 20 finalists will be selected and brought to Minneapolis for a casting call with a panel of judges. On April 23 the 12 maurices Main Street Models will be announced.
