Magical Paul wows Roberts Library summer reading participants
Magical Paul was an extra special treat for kids enrolled in the Hazel Mackin Community Library Summer Reading Program. In order to see Magical Paul, the kids had to read at least 10 hours.
"'When I grow up, I want to be a magician. I thought his tricks were very interesting!' This was the first thing out of my 5-year-olds mouth this morning after attending the End of the Summer Reading Program at the Roberts Park Building last night," said library director Brenda Hackman.
Approximately 125 children and adults attended the show, with many surpassing the 10-hour requirement.
There were 190 children registered in the summer reading program. To register, they had to read as least two hours first and then they were eligible to participate in the program. For every two hours read, they received an incentive and after 10 hours they were given a book to keep.
"By encouraging your children or special child in your life to read, you are giving them a gift to last a lifetime," said Hackman. "Even though the reading program has ended, please keep reading & carry those great habits into the school year."
