Man appears in turkey hunt shooting
A Minnesota man charged with a felony in connection with the shooting of another man while turkey hunting in the town of Somerset last April appeared in St. Croix County Circuit Court Thursday.
Anthony P. Cardarelli, 27, White Bear Lake, Minn., posted a $1,000 signature bond Oct. 24, on one count of second-degree reckless endangerment.
The criminal complaint said Jerry Cusick suffered numerous shotgun pellet wounds to his face and chest when deputies and a game warden arrived about 7:23 a.m. April 30.
Cusick told investigators he was walking on a trail in the woods scouting out turkey hunting areas when he was shot by a hunter in the area. Cardarelli told investigators he was set up in a ditch in full camouflage gear with a decoy when he heard movement behind him. He saw a white spot and fired then heard someone scream and called 911, the criminal complaint said.
The incident occurred about one-quarter mile south of 1982 80th Street. Cusick suffered some 58 pellet wound to his body. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 9.
