It was the first time in 21 years the Wildcats were sent home in the first round.

Marquette was up by two with just over :20 seconds left, but 11th-seeded Kentucky met its downfall by putting Wesley Matthews on the free-throw line. He made all of eight of his free shots in the final 31-point-four seconds.

Marquette shot 57-percent from the floor in the second half.

Jerel McNeal scored 20 for the No. 6 Golden Eagles, who improved to 25-9.

Senior Joe Crawford scored 35 points for Kentucky, which closed out at 18-13.

Saturday, the Eagles will be the underdog as they face third-seeded Stanford. The Cardinal improved to 27-7 with an easy win over Cornell, 77-53.
