Martell to play basketball at University of Minnesota-Crookston
When you watch Ashley Martell on the basketball court, it is clear to see that she has a special passion for the game.
Martell will be continuing her basketball career in college. Last Wednesday she signed an NCAA Division II letter of intent to attend the University of Minnesota-Crookston and play basketball for the Golden Eagles.
Martell has built herself into one of the top offensive forces in girls basketball in western Wisconsin. Last year she ranked among the top scorers in the area, scoring 19.6 points per game. The 5 foot, 8 inch shooting guard was also the leading scorer on her AAU team in the off-season.
Martell has been a member of the Spartan varsity since her freshman season. She was a first team All-MBC selection as a junior and sophomore. She ranked seventh in the conference as a sophomore, scoring 13.3 points per game. She ranked 17th in scoring as a freshman, contributing 7.5 points per game.
"Ashley Martell is a dynamite three-point shooter and is very effective at attacking the rim," said Crookston coach Mike Roysland. "Her versatility with being able to handle the basketball and court sense will allow her to play multiple positions."
Martell has also been an all-conference performer in softball and volleyball. She plans to major in health science at Crookston, which competes in the Northern Sun Conference.
