Max Praschak joins Aaron Joppru as Somerset 2014 state track champions
Somerset junior Max Praschak became the second Spartan to win a 2014 state track championship, and the second member of his family to win a state hurdle championship, when he won the Division 2 110 meter high hurdle championship at the 2014 WIAA State Track Championships in La Crosse on Saturday.
The state meet was delayed by more than four hours when a rain front moved through the La Crosse area just after the meet started at 11 a.m. The meet was restarted at 4:30 p.m.
Praschak won the 110 hurdle championship in 14.71 seconds. He edged out Matthew Peter of St. Thomas More High School who finished in 14.73 seconds. Praschak's other brother, Luke, won the Division 1 state championship in the 110 hurdles a year ago. His winning time was 14.71 seconds, an identical match to his brother's time this season.
Ellsworth's Brett Freier, who has battled Praschak all season in hurdle events, took sixth in the state championship race in 15.15 seconds.
Somerset senior Aaron Joppru was the first Spartan to win a state championship this year when he won the Division 2 pole vault state event. He won the event by clearing the bar at 14 feet, 9 inches.
