Memorial Day ceremonies set in New Richmond area

The American Legion Post 80 of New Richmond is planning Memorial Day programs for Monday, May 26.

A following is the morning schedule:


• 9 a.m. -- Ceremony at the Catholic Cemetery.

• 9:30 a.m. -- St. Croix Health Center cemetery.

• 10 a.m. -- Oakland Cemetery.

• 10:30 a.m. -- New Richmond Public Cemetery.

• 11 a.m. -- Knowles Avenue bridge, gun salute.

• 11:30 a.m. -- Veterans' Memorial, Victoria Park, ceremony.

• Noon -- Lunch will be served at the American Legion Hall, Wall Street, in New Richmond.

The public is invited to attend. The lunch is free and will be served by the Butler-Harmon American Legion Post 80 Auxiliary.

Deer Park

The Memorial Day observance at Calvary Cemetery begins at 10:30 a.m. May 26, 2008. Pastor Pat Nolet of the United Methodist Church is scheduled to speak. Coffee and other refreshments will be available once again at the Deer Park Community Center after the program.

Butler-Harmon American Legion Post #80 will perform military honors at Cylon Methodist Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery in Stanton Township at 10 a.m. and Calvary Cemetery at Deer Park at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2008.


The Somerset American Legion will have its Memorial Day services beginning with a breakfast for Legion members from 8-9 a.m. Then marchers will meet at St. Anne's after mass for a 21 gun salute.

From their there will be a small parade from St. Anne's to the river bridge, where auxiliary services will take place. After that, marchers will continue on to Veterans Park for a briefing.

Refreshments will be served at the American Legion following the parade. Legion members will continue on to Pioneer Cemetery, Emmanuel Cemetery and then to the Boardman Cemetery to conduct services.

After that, Legion members will travel back to the Somerset Legion for a flag ceremony.

The Legion asks those who have a tattered flag and wish for proper disposition to drop their flag off at the Legion by noon.
