Milwaukee man recovering after saving son from train-van collision
A suburban Milwaukee man is getting better, after he was injured while trying to get his 2-year-old son out of the way of a passing freight train.
Scott Partenfelder, 47, was moved out of intensive care Wednesday, and he was upgraded to serious condition at Milwaukee Froedtert Hospital.
Elm Grove police officer John Krahn was hurt while saving the boy's mother. He remains in satisfactory condition.
The incident happened on Memorial Day.
Authorities said the woman's mini-van got stuck on railroad tracks while it was heading to Elm Grove's holiday parade.
And while her husband and the officer were saving the pair, the passing train hit and crushed the mini-van.
The woman and the child escaped injury.
