Minneapolis firefighter charged with Burnett County killing
A Minneapolis firefighter is due in a Wisconsin courtroom this afternoon, on charges that he killed his girlfriend's former boyfriend.
Kyle Huggett, 32, of Danbury will make his first court appearance in Burnett County on a charge of second-degree intentional homicide.
Authorities said Huggett shot John Peach, 29, at the woman's home on Jan. 20, right after Peach broke through the front door.
Prosecutors said the two men exchanged bitter text messages that day.
Supposedly, Peach made an unspecified threat in one of those cell messages, after Huggett cut him down for getting Social Security disability payments.
Another text message reportedly said Huggett wanted to replace Peach as the father of the five-year-old boy the victim fathered.
Prosecutors said it took four months to file their complaint, because investigators had to wait for the text messages they had subpoenaed.
