We keep hearing that the rough economy has folks giving less to charity - but two of the larger University of Wisconsin campus foundations are seeing mixed results.

The foundation for the Madison campus has received 4 percent more dollars than a year ago. But foundation president Sandy Wilcox says the actual number of givers is down about 10 percent.

Wilcox says December is typically his group's biggest month, as folks take advantage of tax deductions with their year-end gifts.

But with 11,000 fewer donors, Wilcox says he does not expect a record month.

Meanwhile, the foundation at UW-Eau Claire says it's doing well. Kimera Way says the group's phone-based drive is expected to reach its $0.5 million goal by the end of the current school year. It's at $200,000 now.

Way says some donors are deferring or extending their pledges. Still, Way says there are lots of UW alumni and friends who want to help students out during these hard times.
