Montpetit leads Nebraska-Omaha versus Gophers; three local players skating for UW-River Falls
Brock Montpetit and the University of Nebraska-Omaha men's hockey team will play at the University of Minnesota in games this Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, three local skaters will be playing for UW-River Falls in a homestand this Friday and Saturday against UW-Superior.
Montpetit and the UNO Mavericks are ranked 13th nationally in the USCHO.com hockey poll. The Minnesota Gophers are ranked third in the nation. Both games will have start times of 7:07 p.m. at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis.
Montpetit, of Somerset, ranks third on the Mavericks with 12 points and his 11 assists are tops on the team. Montpetit tied a UNO team record by recording four assists in a game against Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 24.
UW-River Falls hosts UW-Superior for games at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at Hunt Arena in games that will help decide an early leader in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Local players skating for the Falcons include senior defenseman Jeff Burke of Somerset and junior forward Jake Calleja and freshman goalie Tanner Milliron, both from New Richmond. Burke has four assists in the Falcons' eight games this season and Calleja has two assists. Milliron has seen action in one game as the team's primary reserve goalie.
