Motorist dies in St. Croix County crash
A Clear Lake man died in a one-car rollover accident Friday morning.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office responded to a single-vehicle accident on 270th Street, just north of 210th Avenue, in the Town of Forest at 5:43 a.m. Friday, May 1.
A 2001 BMW, driven by Nicholas Elwood, 23, Clear Lake, was northbound on 270th Street. The car apparently left the roadway and entered the ditch. The vehicle struck a tree stump and rolled several times.
Elwood was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County medical examiner. Elwood was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Department. The Clear Lake Fire Department and EMS assisted at the scene of the crash.
This is the fourth fatality of 2009 in St. Croix County.
