MuckFest MS Twin Cities will take place at the Somerset Amphitheater Music and Event Center (715 Spring St.) Saturday, Aug. 2 in Somerset.

The motto “Bring it. Run it. Muck it.” describes the event to a tee. The event, which benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, is a 5K course full of mud that takes participants through roughly 19 obstacles that spin, swing and fling people around, according to the event website. The course takes roughly 45-90 minutes to complete, on average. If the names of the obstacles are any indication, participants are in for a wild ride: Tunnel of Love, Spill Hill, Slither and Skid Mark are just a few.

“We operate on ‘the more, the muckier,’” the website reads. “So invite your friends and family to join you in the hilarious spills and thrills. To get the most out of your MuckFest MS experience, you should start a team or join a team. When you slosh through the mud or take on one of the outrageous obstacles, you’ll want someone to laugh with and to give you a hand up.”

There is also a specially designed “mucky playlot” for children ages 5-11 called Lil’ Muckers. The area is free, but kids must be accompanied by an adult. Event organizers advise bringing a towel and a change of clothes, since the kids’ area is as muddy as the adult course.

Spectators are welcome to watch family and friends take a stab at the course free of charge.

The “recreational wave” of runners begins at 10 a.m. Times will not be considered for the competitive awards. This group competes for bragging rights, such as who had the most “epic spill,” who took the longest to finish and who looks the best in the mud. Another wave takes off at 10:30 a.m., followed by one more at 11 a.m.

Participants must be over the age of 12 on the day of the event. Participants who are 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Cost to register the day of the event is $105 per individual. Prizes will be awarded to teams who raise the most money.

A post party will take place in the Muck Festival area, which will include music, food and beverages.
