Music boosters host holiday concert event
The Somerset Music Boosters will host an upcoming concert event for the entire family, with proceeds going to support music in schools and the community.
The event, "an Evening with INPULSE, A Cappella Band," is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Somerset High School.
INPULSE, an award winning a cappella group, endeavors to advance the art of a cappella vocal music through the education of young singers. INPULSE strives to make students aware of the joy of singing by using proven classical techniques, while making it fun and comfortable to sing in any style.
The band visits schools throughout the country, featuring an innovative educational outreach clinic for students of all ages and levels to learn the art of a cappella music through hands-on experience. INPULSE believes that music and the arts are critical to the integrity of our society and shaping the artists and leaders of tomorrow. The group strives to tap into the creative energy of young people in an informative, imaginative and inspirational way to encourage them to always be involved in music. The ensemble is fully trained from St. Olaf College and Concordia Colleges in Minnesota, and Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.
Local sponsors for this event include American Legion Post 111, Bristol Ridge Golf Course, Four Seasons Child Care, Prax Worldwide Logistics and Exel Transportation Services, MA Mia Photography, Northside Auto, St. Croix National Golf & Event Center, Defined Spine, Somerset Chamber of Commerce, Carpeting by Mike and Kuryakyn Products.
Tickets are on sale on the boosters' website www.SomersetBoosters.com and advance tickets may be purchased at Royal Credit Union and First National Community Bank in Somerset. Tickets are also available at the door, but organizers believe the limited number of seats will go fast and encourage advance purchasing of tickets.
"Last year when INPULSE performed at the school, the room was packed," said Rachel Erickson, one of the Booster members.
The Somerset Music Boosters group was formed in 2002 by members of the Somerset community. Realizing the importance of music in education, the Somerset Boosters work to support and promote music throughout the Somerset School District and in the community. Funds raised by the boosters help to purchase supplemental instruments for the band and provide accompanists for the vocalists. The Boosters have hosted community carnivals and concerts, exposing the community to musical talents of students and other performers.
