Naomi Wahlquist, 91
Naomi Mae (Holzer) Wahlquist, age 91, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 3.
Born Jan. 6, 1922, to Hazel Elizabeth (Bishop) and William Russell Holzer in Warren Township, Wis., she graduated from Hammond High School and then from Stout in Menomonie with a teaching degree in home economics. She was a teacher at New Richmond, Wis., High School for several years. She also taught at the Baldwin High School and then served as a substitute teacher for many years after teaching. Naomi also possessed a great love for animals. She was united in marriage to Charles Russell Wahlquist on Aug. 21, 1948. Naomi found salvation while attending a special evening service at the Methodist church in Hammond, Wis.
Naomi is survived by her six children, Jeffrey and Erica (Thompson) Wahlquist of Baldwin, Pamela (Wahlquist) and Jeffrey Ryberg of Hudson, James Wahlquist of Baldwin, Charles and Bonnie (Stone) Wahlquist of Baldwin, Robert and Amy (Sandstrom) Wahlquist of Baldwin, and Penny (Wahlquist) and Timothy Engel of Baldwin; 13 grandchildren, Caroline Wahlquist, Alaina Ryberg, Khiel Ryberg, Caleb Ryberg, Trevor and Jaclyn (Wakeen) Wahlquist, Nicole (Wahlquist) and Matt VandeBerg, Kelsey Wahlquist, Katelyn Wahlquist, Victoria Wahlquist, Elizabeth Wahlquist, James Engel, Abigail Engel, and Sarah Engel; five great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wahlquist; her parents, Hazel and Russell Holzer; brother Irving and sister-in-law Helen Holzer; and sister Marion (Holzer) and brother-in-law Louis Olson.
Services for Naomi Wahlquist will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services as well as from 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 8, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin. Burial will take place at the Baldwin Cemetery.
