National Signing Day: Somerset's Gaelin Elmore makes it official, signs with Gophers
Somerset football standout Gaelin Elmore made it official on Wednesday morning, signing his national letter of intent to play football for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.
This wraps up a whirlwind year for Elmore. He was courted by programs from all over the nation, but decided to stay close to home and play with the Gophers.
Elmore made it official as part of NCAA National Signing Day on Wednesday.
While many colleges expressed interest in Elmore, he said Minnesota coach Jerry Kill and his staff made a strong early impression that no other program could match. Elmore said the Gopher coaching staff reminded him of the Somerset coaching staff he grew under.
"They're down-to-earth great people and that's what we have here," Elmore said.
Elmore will finish high school at the end of this quarter on April 1. He will enroll at the University of Minnesota on May 1 to begin taking classes and working with the football program.
