Neumann, Flandrick, Dvorak win MBC wrestling titles
New Richmond's Joe Neumann and Somerset's Gabe Flandrick and Haydon Dvorak all earned individual championships in the 2011 Middle Border Conference Wrestling Tournament, held Saturday at Ellsworth High School.
Ellsworth won the team championship with 278.5 points. Amery was second with 207.5 points, followed by New Richmond with 157 and Somerset with 117.5.
Neumann was the prohibitive favorite to win the 285-pound class and he didn't disappointed. Neither of his matches reached the second period. In the finals he pinned Ellsworth's Lucas Albarado in 52 seconds.
Both of Somerset's wrestlers won their championship matches by 3-2 scores. Flandrick earned his first MBC title by defeating Amery's Eddy Benitez in the 135-pound finals.
Dvorak earned the 171-pound title by edging Ellsworth's Noah McLay, 3-2. This is the second straight year that Dvorak has defeated McLay in the MBC finals. McLay is currently ranked third in the state among Division 2 wrestlers.
New Richmond had four wrestlers finish second in their classes. Shane Blackman, Abe Anderson, Cody Chouinard and Jorden Aufderhar were all second place finishers. For Somerset, the Bushinger brothers, Trevor and Austin, both took second place.
