New Pierce victim/witness coordinator found calling in college
Jessie Dando started last month as the new victim/witness coordinator for Pierce County. She comes from Washington County (Minn.), where she spent nearly six years working in their victim/witness office.
"I was so comfortable where I was at and knew how it worked," she said. "But, I knew I wanted a challenge and put some thought into it."
The Sauk Rapids, Minn., native graduated from St. Cloud (Minn.) State University with a degree in social work in 2002. During her collegiate years, she found her calling.
"I found my niche working with victims of crime," she said. "I wanted to make sure their voices were heard in the criminal justice system because they are often lost in the process."
Dando started in Brown County (Minn.), where she spent four years working for their victims' services before moving to Washington County in December 2006.
So far, the biggest challenge she says is getting used to Wisconsin's policy and procedures after spending 10 years in the Minnesota court system. She praised the support staff and legal secretaries for their help in getting her up to speed.
Dando lives in Roberts with husband Austin and 10-month-old Lievie.
