New Richmond area shows continued growth in Census data

Growth in New Richmond has slowed considerably since the national economic downturn kicked in.

But that doesn't mean the city has stopped its population gains.

According to the Census Bureau, New Richmond now has a population of 8,375, compared to 6,310 residents in 2000.

The community's 2010 estimated population was 8,007. The 2009 estimate was 8,003.

"I'm very pleasantly surprised to see the 2010 population at 8,375," said Mayor Fred Horne.
