New Richmond boys hockey tops Somerset in overtime

The New Richmond and Somerset boys hockey teams waged another classic in their storied rivalry on Saturday night.

New Richmond's Nick Lubow scored 2:10 into overtime to give the Tigers a 3-2 win over the Spartans, Somerset's first loss of the season.

The game was extremely closely and evenly played. Regulation ended at 2-2 with both teams having 30 shots on goal.

Somerset got the opening goal wiht 5:14 left in the first period. Aaron Moore redirected a pass from Drew Kelly past New Richmond goalie Adam Dilley.

The Tigers tied the score with 3:53 left in the period. The Tigers were stopped on an initial breakway, but senior Tanner Wisemiller drilled home the rebound from between the circles.

New Richmond took its first lead 2:19 into the third period when Kole Hallmark scored on a shorthanded breakaway. The line of Hallmark, Lubow and Jake Singerhouse generated a number of good scoring chances in the game.

Somerset tied the game on a power play with 2:25 left in the period. Kelly ripped a shot from between the circles for the tying goal

Lubow scored the game winner after Singerhouse won a battle for the puck behind the Spartan goal. He backhanded a pass to the slot, where Lubow was camped to drill the puck home.

Both goalies had exceptional games with Dilley registering 32 saves for the Tigers and Bryce Hanson making 31 saves for the Spartans.
