The New Richmond boys soccer team will play in its first WIAA sectional championship game on Saturday after rallying from a 2-0 deficit to beat River Falls 3-2 in overtime in Thursday's WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinal game.

New Richmond will play at 4 p.m. in Saturday in the sectional title game. The Tigers will face the winner of Thursday's game between Marshfield and Pulaski.

The winning goal in Thursday's game came from a scramble in front of the net. New Richmond senior Casey Turnipseed got credit for the goal, as teammates Nathan Feiner and Luke Landaal collided with the River Falls goalie as they all rushed toward the ball.

New Richmond trailed 2-0 at halftime. Senior Shane Blackman scored the first New Richmond goal at 52:32, with Nathan Feiner getting the assist.

The Tigers kept constant pressure on the Wildcats in the second half. The Tigers got the tying goal when Jack Hop's shot hit the crossbar, with Landaal bumping the rebound into the net.

This is the first time the Tigers have ever reached the sectional championship game. Their only other excursion was in 2010, when they upset River Falls in the regional championship game to advance.
