New Richmond boys win MBC golf tournament
The New Richmond boys golf team won the 2014 Middle Border Conference tournament on Tuesday, but the Tigers fell two points short of winning the overall MBC season championship.
New Richmond continued its improved play by winning the tournament at Somerset's Bristol Ridge Golf Club, finishing with a score of 330. That was one stroke ahead of Osceola and five strokes ahead of third place Somerset. Because Osceola had built a sizable points lead in the early conference meets, the Tigers' win on Tuesday wasn't enough to pull ahead in the overall standings.
New Richmond junior Kole Hallmark played his finest round of the season on Tuesday. Hallmark shot a 76 to earn medalist honors, finishing three strokes ahead of Osceola senior Dan Cronick. Hallmark and Tiger senior Tanner Wisemiller both finished as first team all-conference golfers.
In addition to Hallmark's 76, the Tigers received scores of 82 from Connor McCann, 85 from Thomas McKinney, 87 from Wisemiller and 90 from Cole Hansen.
Somerset stayed right on the heels of the two leaders to take third place and finish in third in the overall standings. The Spartans were led on their home course by Hunter Iverson and Wil Gauper, who both shot 82, Danny Green at 83, Alex Lahde at 88 and Zach Bahr at 91.
