New Richmond dance team earns two fifth place finishes at state
The New Richmond High School dance team earned fifth place finishes in the kick and pom categories in the 2013 WACPC State Competition at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse on Feb. 2.
Tiger coach Ali Saliny said the team was proud to earn fifth place finishes in the strong field of teams at the state meet. The Tigers competed in Division 2 in the kick competition and Division 3 in the pom competition.
"Our team had great performances, we competed against a lot of talented teams," Saliny said. "We represented the western part of the state really well. Other than Hudson and Prescott, we were the only team from our western region to place."
New Richmond's Megan Chelberg earned all-state honors at the state meet. To be eligible for all-state, a dancer has to perform a solo dance routine at the state meet. Of the 70 girls who performed solos, 14 were selected for all-state honors. Chelberg received a medal and a certificate honoring her all-state status.
This is the fifth straight year where the Tigers have had a team member earn all-state recognition.
The Tigers have five more performances planned for this season, at halftime of Tiger basketball games, including this Thursday and Friday.
Saliny said the team will begin the tryout process for next year's team in March.
The St. Croix Central dance team placed 10th among the 12 teams in the Division 4 pom competition at the state meet.
"I am so proud of the team and how they did this weekend. We met our goal of competing at state and we competed very well and gave it our all," said Central dance coach Kayla Dimler.
