From 4 to 5 p.m. each Thursday in January and February, the local library hosts a Lego challenge and free time for attendees.

As the group gathers, Youth Services Librarian Georgia Jones said she picks a theme for the day. She reads a book related to the week's theme, such as "transportation" last week and "pirates" the week before.

Then Jones challenges the Lego enthusiasts to build something with Legos that relates to the day's theme.

After that is completed, the kids are allowed some free time. "They can just build whatever they want," she said.

Jones said the library is offering the Lego gathering on a trial basis through the end of February, but if there is enough interest the club might continue for additional weeks.

So far, about a dozen young library patrons have attended the gatherings each week.

Charlie Olson, 8, said he's always loved working with Legos and he's excited about the library program.

"I have a whole tub of Legos at home," he said. "I just like it, because you can make anything you can imagine."

Jonah Aluni, 7, agreed.

"Legos are like my favorite thing to do," he said as he worked on a new creation. "You can build anything. You can go crazy with them."

There are no age limits on those wishing to participate in the group. No registration is required to join the group. Just show up.
