New Richmond lifters have 12 qualified for state
New Richmond’s girls brought home the championship trophy from the Osceola regional powerlifting meet held on Saturday.
With the success in Saturday’s meet, the Tigers now have 12 lifters qualified for state, including nine girls and three boys. The Tiger boys finished third in the team competition at Osceola on Saturday.
New Richmond’s Taylor Klemmensen earned the “Best Lifter” Award for the girls meet on Saturday, based on her total lifts and body-weight conversion. Klemmensen was the champion in the 123-pound class, finishing with a total of 705 pounds in her lifts. Her best squat was 280 pounds, her best bench press was 110 pounds and her best dead lift was 315 pounds.
Tiger lifters who qualified for state during Saturday’s meet include Klemmensen, Allan Wollenberg, Austin Dimick, Laura Lindahl and Brendan Maki.
Coach Brian Kaczmarski said the team had several specific goals set for the meet and the team achieved those goals. One goal was to increase the team’s total lifts by 10 percent and that was accomplished. Another goal was to have every Tiger complete at least one successful lift, which also was done. The Tigers had 44 lifters at the meet. All were in grades 7-12, except for one fifth grader.
Kaczmarski said one of the bright spots of the meet was Lindahl’s performance. The junior is in her first year on the team and she achieved a rare feat by qualifying for state in her second meet.
“She’s a hard-working kid,” Kaczmarski said. “She’s been a pleasant surprise for the coaches.”
The Tigers will be in action again this Saturday, competing at Holmen.
