New Richmond Millers topped by former teammate
When T.J. Wink joined the New Richmond Millers in 2006, he was a tall, gangly high schooler with coarse pitching mechanics.
After Wink pitched for the Millers, he pitched collegiately at UW-Superior, where he was one of the Yellowjackets top pitchers. He parlayed that success into work in two professional leagues. He pitched in the Canadian-American League in 2011 and 2012 with Pittsfield and New Jersey. Later in 2012, he pitched for the St. Paul Saints and the El Paso Diablos in the American Association.
The Millers’ only hit against Wink on Wednesday was a single by Josh Leavens. Wink recorded 13 strikeouts in six innings of work.
Zac Parfitt started on the mound for the Millers. He had stretches where he was sharp, but River Falls was able to chip away for runs in most innings. The Fish scored twice in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings and finished the game with three runs in the sixth inning.
Weather forced cancellation of the Millers games scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Saturday’s game at Spring Valley has been rescheduled for July 26 at 7 p.m.
The Millers now have an extended break in their schedule. They don’t play again until they face Osceola in the annual Fun Fest clash. The St. Croix Valley League All-Star Game will be played this Saturday at River Falls at 7 p.m. The Millers will be represented in the game by Mitch Paquin, Jon Will, Riley Kannel and Curt Kleinschmidt. New Richmond manager Ryan Stephens will manage the North squad.
